Reflections on Pathology

While prosaically ‘tis the study of disease

Poetically it is the study of suffering

What an endeavour!

To study, to find, to treat

Yet, suffering is what pushes us -

Tests us and even changes us

When man is pushed to edge

Ears ringing, stomach burning

Whilst cells might be rational

Emotion very clearly is not

Lovely pathology – graceful epistemology!

Its students, always in the fringe

Irrational doubts amidst rational methods

But, I am one such student

Ever stunned but ever learning

Yet, our goal is to treat

Members of army divine to beat

Suffering ineffable – No more to bear

For the pathologists’ fare

Mystic science for mystic pain

Stokes my hearts passion ever again
